    TIDBIT: Roxey Emiline (DENTON) HICKMAN, my great-grandmother, and a descendant of the Rev. Richard Denton, was herself a minister in the Church of the Brethren. (She also smoked a corn-cob pipe.)







    TIDBIT: "John DENTON, wife and Miss DENTON," are listed as residents at Ruddle's Fort, Kentucky at the time of the 1780 attack by the British and Native America warriers. I am a direct descendant of this John Denton's brother, Thomas Denton.

    This John Denton was great-grand uncle of this Roxey Emiline (DENTON) HICKMAN.

    So this John Denton at Ruddles Fort was my great-great-great-great-grand-uncle. (See my Ruddles Fort Massacre Web page.)







    TIDBIT: Roxey Emiline (DENTON) HICKMAN's aunt by marriage was Elizabeth (Lincoln) Denton, who was a first cousin of President Abraham Lincoln.

    In other words, my great-grandmother, Roxey Emiline (DENTON) HICKMAN's father was Allen DENTON. This Allen DENTON's brother, Isom DENTON, married Elizabeth LINCOLN.

    So, I am a great-great-grand-nephew to the husband of President Abraham Lincoln's first cousin.

Abigail (STEVENSON) Denton was born in 1640 and died in 1715 in Jamaica, Long Island, New York, United States of America. Abigail was buried 15 October 1715 in Jamaica, Long Island, New York, United States of America. Daniel and Abigail (Stevenson) DENTON had at least three children: Daniel DENTON (born 1661), Mercy DENTON (born 1668) and Abigail DENTON.)

Rev. Richard Denton's tombstone has an inscription in Latin:

'Here lies the dust of Richard Denton. O'er his low peaceful grave bends the perennial cypress, fit emblem of his unfading fame. On earth his bright example, religious light, shown forth o'er multitudes. In heaven his pure rob'd spirit shines like an effulgent star.'
